Think Disney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the sphere of opioid recovery influencers, there\u2019s a well-known organization called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aatod.org\">AATOD<\/a>, short for the American Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence, Inc.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Founded in 1984, AATOD works to enhance the quality of patient care in treatment programs by promoting the growth and development of comprehensive opioid treatment services throughout the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mark Parrino, the organization\u2019s president, published a policy paper last month, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aatod.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/2019-Policy-Paper-4.pdf?utm_source=Copy+of+2018+Donation+Program&amp;utm_campaign=medicaid+webinar+6&amp;utm_medium=email\">\u201cUsing Medication Assisted Treatment to Treat Opioid Use Disorder: Learning from Past Experience to Guide Policy.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The policy paper presents many compelling points and among the most insightful is this culminating argument:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere are ways to have a safer \u2018middle ground\u2019 for expanding access to treatment. When medications are needed to treat this disease, it is best to provide a comprehensive array of services for as long as the patient needs them\u2026 medication alone is rarely associated with long-term successful patient outcomes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parrino proposes a coordinated treatment model, stating \u201cIt is unwise to have primary care practitioners induct new patients onto methadone maintenance treatment\u2026 Our judgment leads us to believe that primary care practitioners, working in conjunction with OTPs, could be valuable in treating fully stabilized patients.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At New Season, we\u2019re proud to adhere to this recommended model.
