Our organization\u2019s statistics show the following positive outcomes after a patient\u2019s been in a year of treatment:<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 90% of patients tested negative for opioids, and<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 73% of patients were employed or enrolled in school.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drugabuse.gov\/publications\/principles-drug-addiction-treatment-research-based-guide-third-edition\/frequently-asked-questions\/how-effective-drug-addiction-treatment\">broader research<\/a> that tracks individuals in treatment over an extended period of time, most people who remain in medication-assisted treatment stop using drugs, cease any criminal activity, and improve their occupational, social, and psychological functioning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Question: How important is restoring patients to sobriety, like the treatment method of complete abstinence that can achieve this goal?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Answer:<\/strong> The individual patient&#8217;s health and wellbeing is our number one objective. Complete abstinence is a great outcome, but it is not the only goal we strive to achieve. There are other marks that indicate successful progress for patients in recovery including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Improving physical and mental health,<\/li>\n<li>Improving social functioning including the ability to gain employment, return to school and contribute at home,<\/li>\n<li>Improving overall quality of life,<\/li>\n<li>Improving pregnancy outcomes,<\/li>\n<li>Achieving a more stable lifestyle,<\/li>\n<li>Reducing use of illegal opioids and other drugs,<\/li>\n<li>Reducing risk behaviors such as intravenous drug use thereby preventing the transmission of HIV and other infectious diseases,<\/li>\n<li>Reducing incarceration rates,<\/li>\n<li>Reducing criminal activity, and<\/li>\n<li>Reducing the chance of overdose and death.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At New Season, our goal is to ensure that we minimize relapse and provide support to patients if they see positive benefits from staying engaged in treatment. Our ultimate goal is to see patients through to where they are leading drug-free lives and no longer require treatment, but every patient\u2019s needs and experiences are different.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Question: What\u2019s the proper length of medication-assisted treatment?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Answer:<\/strong> We follow the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drugabuse.gov\/publications\/principles-drug-addiction-treatment-research-based-guide-third-edition\/frequently-asked-questions\/how-long-does-drug-addiction-treatment\">National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) guidelines<\/a>, which state that individuals progress through drug addiction treatment at various rates, so there is no predetermined length of treatment. Research has shown, however, that good outcomes are contingent on adequate treatment length. Generally, participation for less than 90 days is of limited effectiveness and treatment lasting significantly longer is recommended for maintaining positive outcomes.
