\u201cHeroin,\u201d a Memphis, Tenn., firefighter said, \u201chas deep claws and deep teeth.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lt. Jason Berry said he and his crew \u201ccan\u2019t even put an approximate number on the [overdose] calls they\u2019ve personally made in the last five to 10 years,\u201d wrote reporter Don Wade<\/a> of The Daily News<\/a>. The first responder said many times his department has called on the same people they\u2019ve already revived from a deadly overdose.<\/p>\n

New Season patient, Madison Erby, 31, knows that all too well. Erby, whose story was featured in the news article<\/a>, talks of the frightening reality of being prescribed hydrocodone and naively taking it after the birth of her daughter 11 years ago.<\/p>\n

Erby, now in her second round of recovery at the New Season DeSoto County Treatment Center<\/a>, says she can recall the feeling of quickly becoming addicted to prescription pain pills. Not long after, she started buying heroin when the pills became too expensive. Addiction robbed her of raising three children, most of her family and a stable life.<\/p>\n

At the time the story was published, Erby proudly clocked three months of sobriety. \u201cNinety days doesn\u2019t sound like a lot, but it\u2019s a miracle,\u201d she told the Memphis Daily News.<\/p>\n

The article also highlighted the recent state grant that is helping people find recovery at New Season<\/a> with medicated-assisted treatment<\/a>, \u201cwhich uses FDA-approved medications in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies,\u201d the article cited. \u201cMore than a dozen patients, who otherwise couldn\u2019t afford it, are now in treatment at the Walls, Miss., facility.\u201d<\/p>\n
